There are moments in the life of an organisation that make everyone stop, smile, and feel deeply grateful. This is one of those moments. Our Founder and Trustee, Mrs. Sujatha, has been awarded a Doctor of Letters by the International Tamil University, in recognition of her respected public life and lifelong service to humanity. For Mrs. Sujatha, service has never been about recognition. It has been about people: those who were left alone, those who were overlooked, and those who had no one to turn to. Year after year, she has stood beside them with patience, compassion, and a belief that every person deserves care. This award is a reminder that sincere work done quietly, with a good heart, always finds its way into the light.
This honour belongs to our donors as much as it belongs to us. On behalf of everyone at Rukmanidevi Charitable Trust, thank you. Every warm meal, safe place to sleep, and moment of comfort we give is possible only because of your kindness. Whether you gave a large amount or a small one, once or for years, your support has become someone’s shelter, someone’s meal, and someone’s reason to feel hopeful again. In return, we promise to keep serving with honesty, dedication, and love, as a charitable trust in Chennai that people can trust. Thank you for believing in us, and for caring for people you may never meet. Meet our team on the About Us page.

To build a compassionate society where every child has the opportunity to learn and grow, no one is deprived of essential care, and every elderly person can live with dignity, safety, and respect.
To support underprivileged children and elderly people by helping address essential needs such as food, education, shelter, and compassionate care through community support and charitable initiatives.
Every donation, big or small, does more than help with a need. It brings food to an empty plate, a book to a child’s hands, and a little hope to someone who has been waiting for kindness.
Rukmanidevi Charitable Trust is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-profit organisation built to help people who have no one to lean on. We believe care should never depend on who you are, where you come from, or what you believe. It should simply reach whoever needs it. Today, our trust in Chennai gives shelter and care to destitute men and women, differently abled children, and elderly people who have been orphaned or left alone, many of whom have gone years without a kind word, a warm meal, or a place to call their own. With the support of our donors, volunteers, and well-wishers, we give them comfort, dignity, and a sense of belonging. We dream of growing every year, so that more people receive the help and respect they deserve, and no one has to face life alone.

At Rukmanidevi Charitable Trust, we give food, clothing, medical care and education, and above all, love. Through our mission, we work so that no child goes hungry, no child is left homeless, and every girl gets the chance to learn through girl child education. We also give elders who have been left alone a place to belong at our elders shelter. Learn more about what we offer and who we are.
Everything we do at our trust in Chennai is possible because of kind people like you. You can donate or sponsor a child with 80G tax benefit, give clothes, books, groceries or toys, volunteer your time, or simply visit us and share your suggestions. See our work in the Gallery and Videos.
Behind every child we care for is a story of waiting: waiting for a meal, for a kind word, for someone to say, “You matter.” You can be the one who answers that wait, and it can start today. You can donate by crossed cheque in favour of Rukmanidevi Charitable Trust, by money order, or by online transfer to the Trust’s bank account. Your donations are eligible for deduction under Section 80G of the Income-tax Act. If you have clothes in good condition, books, stationery, groceries, toys, or other items to share, just give us a call. Our volunteer will visit you and collect them.
We would also love to welcome you to our Trust. Come, spend some time with us, and share your advice and suggestions to help us grow. When you see the little faces smiling and thanking you, you will know your kindness truly mattered.
